We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, process-driven self-starter to join our Internal Audit team in York. As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will support delivery of the internal audit plan and assist in developing leading audit practices across Portakabin.

Working alongside the Internal Audit Manager and Head of Risk and Internal Audit, you will deliver allocated elements of the internal audit plan in a timely and cost-effective manner, whilst raising audit actions which are pragmatic and risk focused, but value-adding to Portakabin.

This is a hybrid role and you will be expected to be based from our Head Office in York 2 days per week. There will also be some travel nationally and across Europe.

 

Role Details

  • Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 + annual bonus
  • Role based: Hybrid (York, YO32)
  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays

Role Responsibilities

  • To deliver formal internal audit reports per the agreed internal audit plan, with the reports being well written, accurate, insightful, risk based and aligned with how the business perceives the risk. This will include evaluating the key risks, the current controls, known gaps, potential risk impacts and agreeing remediation plans
  • Provide advice, support, guidance and assurance to the business, which might be in the form of advisory reports
  • Own the audit process from initial planning conversations, to fieldwork and the reporting of the findings and proposed actions to the business.
  • Ensure open actions are visible, with reminders to the business to ensure they don’t become overdue. This will include an element of advising the business on the sustainability of the activity to close the action(s)
  • Make key decisions e.g. on whether an action to address the residual risk is high, medium or low priority, and then whether the evidence presented to mitigate the risk is sufficient to close the action
  • Assess different options to mitigate the identified risks, both researching good practice internally, but also looking externally for good practice from other firms, Big 4 accounting practices and from the internal audit or risk management institutes/ associations

Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in internal audit, external audit or financial control
  • Experience in delivering financial and non-financial reports to management
  • Accounting, risk or auditing qualification
  • Great stakeholder management and the ability to gain the trust of others
  • High attention to detail and deadline oriented
  • A proactive self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to summarise complex issues/ findings and be able to clearly articulate them
  • Ideally finance and non-finance experience
