We have a fantastic opportunity for a Design Manager to join our team based in York on a permanent basis.
Reporting to the Head of Project Design & Engineering, you will support the England and Wales Hire central, regional commercial and operational teams with the management of multiple large or special projects from bid stage, through pre-construction and to practical completion.
Role Details
- Salary: £44,000 - £48,000 p.a.
- Role based: York, YO32 9PT
- Contract type: Permanent
- Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays
Role Responsibilities
- Managing the design process of identified large or special projects within the division supporting the various bid, commercial and operational teams to deliver better design outputs, reducing errors and coordination issues.
- Provide specialist Design Management, including coordination planning, working alongside the bid, commercial, and project delivery teams. Also working alongside estimators, procurement, manufacturing planning, Central Design & Engineering teams, construction partners, external design stakeholders and clients.
- To work and deliver multiple projects within a fast-paced environment and to demanding timescales.
- Manage multiple projects throughout the division’s operating territories, including attendance at key client, design, or site meetings in person.
- Operational accountability for the successful management of designs leading to improved commercial performance through reduced margin erosion.

Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience of the successful delivery of a large or complex project requiring multiple stakeholder engagement and coordination
- ONC or HNC in Building Studies or equivalent qualification within a relevant field to design or construction
- Full UK driving licence
- Applies specialist and detailed technical expertise
- Demonstrable experience of commercial astuteness and ability to work to challenging project programmes and manage teams effectively
- Listens, consults others and communicates proactively
