About the opportunity

We are looking for a people focussed Employee Relations Specialist to join the Portakabin HR team based at our York Manufacturing Hub. You will have vast experience working on complex ER cases – with a proven track record of delivering the best resolutions for both employees and the business.

As an integral member of the HR People Services team, you will support the Manufacturing Senior HR Business Partner in delivering the People and Culture strategy by providing a comprehensive and professional HR service to Managers and team leaders by coaching, supporting and guiding them employee relations issues.

You will be comfortable in relationships with key stakeholders, including trade union representatives in order to support the Management team in delivering strategy plans for business areas.

You will collaborate with the wider HR team to champion and accelerate a culture of excellence in which people feel engaged and inspired to deliver top business results.

Role Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all case work from time and attendance issues, up to the more complex case work and ensuring that all Employee Relations duties are managed responsibly, fairly and in a timely manner.
  • Provide advice to Managers and team leaders by coaching, supporting and guiding them on general operational issues such as:

- terms and conditions of employment
- sickness absence
- performance management
- disciplinary
- grievances
- engagement
- employee wellbeing
- recruitment
- diversity & inclusion
 

  • Provide advice to Managers and team leaders on employment law, working arrangements and contractual matters
  • Analyse and assess the risks associated with individual cases, make recommendations and work with stakeholders to drive remedial action.
  • Liaison with the wider HR team to assess and analyse employee relations trends to provide meaningful insights and recommendations.
  • Drive improved capability in employee relations matters by delivering workshops and support the development of other learning interventions.
  • Responsible for maintaining relevant HR policies, procedures and template letters, ensuring they remain legislative and best practice compliant.
  • Lead and support on allocated people related projects to drive improvements and deliver the overall people and culture strategy.
  • Management of employee relation matters (consulting with union and non-union forums and developing relationships with the Union).

Are you our ideal candidate?

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • CIPD qualified (level 7) or established work related experience at an advisory level.
  • Proven experience of providing first line advice and support to managers on complex employee relation issues
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Employment legislation and case management experience
  • Evidential knowledge of HR policies and procedure
  • Experience of working within a unionised environment and being able to navigate union agreements
  • In depth understanding of various software packages including MS Excel and PowerPoint

Desirable qualifications and experience:

  • Experience of supporting and working with a manufacturing / construction environment.
