We have a fantastic opportunity for a Chargehand to join our England and Wales Hire team in Bridgwater!

The role of the chargehand is to supervise, motivate and organise Trade and Process Workers to achieve the delivery of a quality product built to divisional standards within agreed timescales on a daily basis, ensuring what has been confirmed.

Your responsibility will be supporting the management of the fitting out/refurbishment and the install/dismantle of Hire Fleet buildings and ongoing maintenance/ suitability of facilities at the Hire and Service centre. You will ensure all works are undertaken in a structured manner whilst maintaining effective cost control, meeting/improving upon planned costs, working within agreed timescales, adherence to safe working practices at all times and maintaining quality standards. You will report any issues to the Service Supervisor/Manager to be carried out on a given day is completed on time and budget.

Your working pattern will be 39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 07:45 to 16:30 and finishing early on Friday at 15:30 (inclusive of lunch breaks).

Role Details 

  • Hourly Rate: £15.32ph plus merit rate between £0.27ph to £4.53ph plus chargehand allowance
  • Role based: Bridgwater
  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Annual leave: 24 days of annual leave plus bank holidays

Role Responsibilities

*       Ensure the operations team comply with all legislation, codes of practice, industry guidelines and/or Company procedures/policies relating to Health and Safety.

*       Ensure any direct working areas and the hire centre is maintained to a safe and orderly standard using 5 S, H&S Inspections and monthly SHE tour and report.

*       Maintain an accurate method of tracking the work program and complete accurate paperwork for all buildings through daily monitoring and managing progress against daily plan.

*       Monitor employee timesheets completed against daily plan ensuring accuracy of booking and service order numbers.

*       Monitor SAP transport log and feedback any discrepancies to the Service Manager/Supervisor.

*       Ensure that the refurbishment of Portakabin Buildings is to the standard required and costs are within established parameters and budgets. Ensuring that all laid down Quality systems e.g., ISO 9001 are adhered to and workmanship quality adheres to technical specifications in place and divisional standards.

*       Agree with Service Manager/Supervisor that sufficient staff levels are always maintained with due consideration to budget constraints. Ensuring daily allocation of labour both employee and sub-contract labour 

*       Using SAP, ensure correct records of building stock control, stock checks and building status is correct. 

*       Support management, as appropriate, with recruitment in line with Portakabin procedures identifying training and development opportunities, conducting meaningful performance conversations and merit reviews.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has:

*       Practical operational experience ideally in construction related roles, 

*       Experience of managing health and safety within construction working environments, 

*       Solid understanding of various software packages including MS Excel and PowerPoint, 

*       Ability to deliver efficiency improvement and optimisation, 

*       Full UK driving licence, 

*       SSSTS or equivalent, 

*       GCSE or equivalent level of education, including Maths and English, 

*       Ability to produce workable solutions to a range of problems, 

*       Ability to establish good relationships with customers and staff, building effective networks.
